Greg Thomas was bowling to Viv Richards in a county game. Viv missed a superb outswinger, and Thomas said, "It’s red, round and weighs about 5 ounces. “Next ball, Viv hits Greg Thomas out of the ground and replies, “Greg, you know what it looks like. Go ahead and find it !” That was one of Cricket’s greatest legends giving more than a befitting reply. Cricket history is replete with such interesting anecdotes which are today very much a part of its rich heritage and folk lore.

Cricket is a game that the English invented and the Commonwealth nations adopted. Today it is more a religion, less a sport in the Indian subcontinent. It is the opium of the masses of close to a third of the world’s population in this region. If ever one needs to know how it feels like God, one needs to be a successful cricketer in the Indian subcontinent. Just ask Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Akram, or Sanath Jayasuriya. These gentlemen are the darlings of their nations and held in high esteem, often higher and loftier than the gods that be.

Cricket is a sport, a religion, and an industry, all rolled into one. Its players apart from being millionaires are famous and command respect and praise that would put the best politicians in these countries to shame. The keen competition and the hunger for cricket can be seen in the almost over 200 days of cricket that is played in a calendar year.

The game which commands such a huge fan following, however, had its modest beginning in England. England and Australia, who played the first game of cricket, are now involved in a fierce rivalry over the Ashes series. Similarly, Pakistan and India are the eternal rivals and an encounter between these teams generates passion rivaling what one would find when two nations are at war. Although referred to as a Gentleman’s game, Cricket has today become fast paced, furious, and fiercely competitive.

Life stops when cricket happens. Whether it is people at work, on the move, in the comfort of their living rooms or in the heat and grime of the stadiums, all are united by the passion they share for this great game. Innumerable sites have sprung up to cash in on this madness and provide a plethora of information that a cricket buff can never have enough of. We present the best that the web has to offer to satiate the fans of this great game.
