Work has often required man to indulge with danger. Human safety can be compromised by a variety of factors – the nature of work, indifference to safety concerns, lack of proper provisions or knowledge about them, lack of finances or cost cutting, excessive reliance on financial insurance instruments, etc. However, safety is a great concern and every conscientious employer would want to enhance the safety provisions at the workplace.

Threat to life or limb may come from accidents and falls to construction workers, workers in factories, drivers or material and luggage handlers, research institutes. It may come from natural hazards, fire, human malice (robbery, mugging, theft, etc), from building collapse, lightning strikes, etc. In some instances providing fool proof safety might be impossible, but safety equipments tend to decrease the possibility of such damage in the first place, or to reduce them in case of a catastrophe.
