The reasoning section is often one of the most difficult, if not the most difficult, sections of any competitive exam. If you’re preparing for IBPS RRB (Regional Rural Banks) examination, then you’re going to have to face reasoning questions too. IBPS RRB Examination Process
The IBPS RRB examination process starts with an application. Candidates looking forward to the RRB job posts are required to submit an application process that checks their eligibility.
Then there’s a two to the three-stage examination process. There’s a pre-exam training followed by an online preliminary exam. The final examination, the Mains or Single, also happens to be an online examination.
Based on the aggregated marks, candidates are allotted to Officers Scale-I, II, and III. After a formal interview, candidates are handed over their job letters.

IBPS RRB Reasoning Syllabus
Reasoning is an essential element of both Preliminary and Mains examination. In the prelims, you’re going to come across 40 reasoning questions. This section is going to be easy to moderate.

The questions might or might not be from every topic. So you’re going to have most of the questions from Blood Relation and no questions from Tabulation. The opposite can also be true. Overall, you can expect the Reasoning questions to be on the easier side.
For the IBPS RRB Mains examination, the syllabus for Reasoning remains more or less the same. In addition to the above subjects, you should be prepared for the following in the reasoning section:

So as expected, the Mains section is going to be tougher comparatively. Not only Reasoning, the other sections like Language, Computer Knowledge, but General Awareness are made tougher too.
There will be 40 reasoning questions for the Mains examination, which constitute 40 marks out of 200 total marks.
For Office Assistants, Scale II, and Scale-II posts, clearing the Prelims and Mains examination is enough to qualify. But for Scale I, attending an additional interview of 100 marks is required.
Here’s how the marking scheme for both IBPS RRB Prelims and Mains are:
- 1 marks for every correct answer
- 0.25 marks deduction for every wrong answer
- 45 minutes without sectional restrictions
- 40 marks for each section
When solving the IBPS RRB paper, you should emphasise both speed and accuracy. You should attempt tougher questions first and solve them before moving onto other questions.
